Bladder Cancer

What it is:

Bladder cancer happens when cells in the lining of the bladder start to grow uncontrollably. The bladder stores urine, and most cancers begin in the inner lining of this organ.

Symptoms:

  • Blood in the urine
  • Pain when urinating
  • Frequent urination
  • Feeling the need to pass urine even when the bladder isn’t full

Urinary symptoms are often caused by infections or other minor conditions, but visible blood in the urine should always be checked.

Diagnosis:

Doctors may do a urine test, cystoscopy (camera inside the bladder), or imaging scans to confirm the diagnosis.

Treatment:

There are different treatment options available, depending on the type and stage of the cancer. If you are diagnosed, your doctor will explain what’s best for you and guide you through the next steps.
