Lung Cancer

What it is:

Lung cancer begins when cells in the lungs grow and divide abnormally. It’s one of the most common cancers and is often linked to smoking, though non-smokers can also develop it.

Symptoms:

  • A cough that doesn’t go away
  • Coughing up blood
  • Chest pain
  • Breathlessness
  • Ongoing tiredness
  • Unexplained weight loss

Most coughs are caused by infections and settle within a few weeks , but a persistent cough should always be checked.

Diagnosis:

Chest X-rays, CT scans, and biopsies are commonly used to confirm and determine the type of lung cancer.

Treatment:

There are different treatment options available, depending on the type and stage of the cancer. If you are diagnosed, your doctor will explain what’s best for you and guide you through the next steps.
