Stomach Cancer
What it is:
Stomach (gastric) cancer begins in the lining of the stomach. It can grow slowly over many years and is sometimes linked to infection with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) bacteria.
Symptoms:
- Indigestion that doesn’t go away
- Feeling full after small meals
- Stomach pain
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Unexplained weight loss
Ongoing indigestion is usually linked to common digestive issues, but symptoms that don’t settle should be discussed with your GP.
Diagnosis:
Tests may include an endoscopy (a small camera passed into the stomach), imaging, or biopsy to confirm the diagnosis.
Treatment:
There are different treatment options available, depending on the type and stage of the cancer. If you are diagnosed, your doctor will explain what’s best for you and guide you through the next steps.
