Cancer Awareness
Kidney Cancer
What it is:
Kidney cancer happens when cells in one or both kidneys grow uncontrollably. The most common type is renal cell carcinoma, usually found in adults.
Symptoms:
- Blood in the urine
- Pain in the side or lower back
- A lump in the abdomen
- Ongoing tiredness
- Unexplained weight loss
Most back pain and urinary symptoms are not cancer. It’s ongoing or unusual changes that should be assessed.
Diagnosis:
Doctors use imaging such as ultrasound, CT, or MRI scans to check for growths. A biopsy may be done to confirm the type of cancer.
Treatment:
There are different treatment options available, depending on the type and stage of the cancer. If you are diagnosed, your doctor will explain what’s best for you and guide you through the next steps.
