Bone & Joint Cancer
What it is:
Bone cancer starts when cells in the bone begin to grow uncontrollably. It can develop in any bone but is most often found in the long bones of the arms and legs.
Symptoms:
- Persistent bone pain
- Pain that worsens at night
- Swelling or tenderness near a joint
- Reduced movement in a limb
- Unexplained fractures
Most bone pain is not cancer. But pain that does not improve or keeps returning should always be checked.
Diagnosis:
Doctors may use X-rays, MRI or CT scans, and a biopsy to confirm the diagnosis and plan treatment.
Treatment:
There are different treatment options available, depending on the type and stage of the cancer. If you are diagnosed, your doctor will explain what’s best for you and guide you through the next steps.
