The loneliness feeling

For cancer patients, the frightening diagnosis and grueling treatment regimen are only two of the ways that cancer affects their lives. It can also be isolating, leaving them feeling alone and lost at one of the most devastating times of their lives. Couple that with the emotional, financial, and mental impact of dealing with cancer, and things become very challenging.

Why do patients feel that they’re alone and lost?

While the focus after being diagnosed with cancer is often simply on getting treatments, patients often find themselves feeling lost, even confused. It’s an incredibly trying time, and patients must struggle with a number of new challenges, including:

  • Multiple appointment times and locations
  • Getting to know new doctors and staff
  • Sitting alone for long periods before appointments
  • Dealing with new medications, dosage instructions, and more
  • Getting to multiple appointments while trying to balance regular responsibilities

The result is that cancer patients are often on their own, struggling to take in new information, get to new offices for treatment, and doing so with little or no help. This makes an already frightening situation seem that much bleaker, but there is hope and help.
